Bittersweet. Mostly Bitter.

Sorry I haven't posted in forever. I've been busy since moving back and there have been tons of things on my mind. The comic below, however, is very relevant to my current state.

Personally it's not quite a feeling of negativity like the character in the comic has, but there's a lingering, overall sadness that always accompanies bittersweet memories. "All's fair in love and war." I suppose this is true. But it doesn't make anything hurt any less.

Dammit.

I wonder if I'm still entitled to heartache after a year.

Baby Critical Mass.

Guess it was bound to happen at some point: my social circle is approaching Baby Critical Mass. They seem to be popping up everywhere -- like groundhogs! One of my good friends in NY just had her first son, while a cousin and his wife are newly-expecting. I suppose this is what happens when People Get Older. Since I'm not there in person to help any of you guys celebrate, I commemorate this entry to you, accompanied by another awesomely relevant episode courtesy of Wondermark.

So a big congratulations go out to Joos & Chris, and to Joe & Joyce ... and of course, a happy hello to little Gavin. Welcome to Earth :)

Hope The Cafeteria Food's Decent.

For those of you going starting school back up this (or next) week, here's an uncannily accurate guide about your college's website that you might find useful.

I can't find SHIT [via]

So true, though. Seriously, how come campus maps are always 1) hard to find and 2) ten times harder to read than they need to be?

Gahhhh. I don't miss those damn maps.

However in some ways I do kinda envy students as they can "escape" the Real World for a couple more years while the economy tries to correct itself. I know of more than a few examples where people have done/are doing just that, and I can't say that it wasn't a smart thing to do. I mean, other possible life circumstances aside, why not? This isn't very encouraging.

But yeah, the start of the fall semester is always exciting. New classes, new daily routine, new Facebook friends ... I used to enjoy finding new spots to study and people-watch. And let's not forget the advent of Autumn! (Okay so the seasons won't really start changing for a few more weeks, but it's coming up.) Anyways, a fun time of the year all around.

Good luck on your first day!

Public Service Announcement 002: Facebook Status Updates.

I joined Facebook only about a year ago. After a couple months of my classmates in the x-ray program asking if I'd joined yet, I finally signed up and made my first noobish post to much fanfare and amusement. I mean, why not? -- pretty much everyone is on it now anyway. Yes, including my mom and several aunts and uncles.

This isn't quite the reaction I had when I got more than a few friend requests from the older members of my family, but I'd previously heard about people complaining that their parents were stalking them on FB, scrolling through their photo albums looking for incriminating evidence and/or posting stuff on their friends' Walls:

Thankfully my family's not that active on Facebook in general, so even if I were doing things my mom wouldn't necessarily approve of, chances are they'd miss my status updates. Not that I'd be posting about them anyway, but some people, unbelievably, still don't seem to realize just how public your information can be. They'll put stuff up about their latest experiments with mind-altering substances and/or stories about some crazy sexual conquest.

Granted, those are a much better (and far more hilarious) read than your typical "Having lunch with my BFF!!" or "GOD my life SUCKS" or "I just planted 35 acres of bananas in FarmVille" or "♫ [insert Top 40 song lyrics here] ♫" status updates -- or even worse, constant inane chatter:

Yeah, I've had to hide some of you guys for this last one especially. Sorry. (But not really.) Sometimes, it's just better to STFU.

Okay, rant over. Have a great Monday :D

Of course, shameless plug: Friend me on Facebook! But please don't flood my Feed with crap like I just wrote about, or you'll get smashed with the Hide Hammer.

Useless.

Given some recent events, this strikes a chord with me (as I'm sure it will some of you).

Over my past relationships, I've tended to apply that last formula with spectacularly unsuccessful results. Hopefully I'm not the only one!

Funny :) but so true :(
